“For Intelligence and Grace.” For thirty years, puppets have had a home in Santarcangelo, is the title of the exhibition curated by Claudio Ballestracci, artisan and artist, in collaboration with Federica Foschi and Claudia Gallo for the municipal museums of Santarcangelo. The exhibition was displayed in various locations in Santarcangelo from 2020 to 2021, before finally arriving at the MET.
“Puppets and marionettes were handed to me, enclosed in three large cardboard boxes, with each character wrapped in thin white paper, making them all resemble silkworm cocoons awaiting metamorphosis, or more prosaically, small funeral shrouds.” The installation takes inspiration from this encounter with the puppets and reimagines the moment of unwrapping. The ‘inanimate’ protagonists are presented one by one, illuminated, and speak to us through their persistent silence.
