Santarcangelo, A Factory of Stories

Educational Paths for Schools of All Levels curated by the Library and Municipal Museums of Santarcangelo di Romagna

For the 2024/2025 school year, the cultural institutions of Santarcangelo propose new and varied strategies for educational research serving schools. These efforts aim to reinforce the role of these institutions as community hubs, with the goal of educating young people in active citizenship (education on legality, democracy, and cultural heritage).

The educational programs offered to schools of all levels take inspiration from the role of the Library and Museums as “factories” of stories, which are made available to students for exploration, creating new experiences, and developing autonomous and personal skills.

The “raw material” for this “factory,” which forms the content of the educational paths, is represented by the cultural heritage of Santarcangelo, both material and immaterial, in its specificities and the multiplicity of its meanings: stories of places and people, books, archives, dialects, archaeological and ethnographic documents, monuments, works, and art experiences.

The guided tours, workshops, and activities offered are designed to ensure that the experience is an opportunity for creative and stimulating learning, but above all to make the visit an integral part of each child’s and young person’s cultural and personal development.

Gli obiettivi:

  • Encourage an interdisciplinary approach that integrates school curricula by stimulating critical thinking through the blending of knowledge and disciplines.

  • Promote the meaning of cultural heritage as a “good” for all, to be discovered, understood, visited, preserved, and hopefully, in the future, valued and passed on to the next generations.

  • Make the Museums and Library living spaces for study and creativity, places to frequent regularly, where individuals can grow in their abilities and competencies.

  • Provide alternative spaces to the usual school environments, which complement the educational journey of students.

To this end, for the 2024/2025 school year, the cultural institutions offer programs to be held at the Museums and the Baldini Library, as well as a special shared project titled Impressions in Time: Printing and Prints in the Local Heritage, which is linked to a temporary exhibition at the MUSAS, focusing on the history of books and writing over time.

2024/2025 | MUNICIPAL MUSEUMS + BALDINI LIBRARY

This school year coincides with two important anniversaries that connect the cultural institutions of our city: the fiftieth anniversary of the opening of the Baldini Library, which took place on October 15, 1974, in the former Sali e Tabacchi building, and the twentieth anniversary of the MUSAS – the Historical and Archaeological Museum, inaugurated on May 7, 2005, at Palazzo Cenci.

Educational Proposal

For these significant anniversaries, the two institutions propose an educational path that delves into the history of books and writing in their various forms. The journey, which will unfold over the school year, will be complemented by shared educational initiatives. Starting in the spring of 2025, it will be enriched by a traveling exhibition that will allow visitors to relive history through the presentation of small yet significant “treasures” from the library and museum collections. Several in-depth initiatives will also be organized, open to the general public.

As for the educational proposals, the shared path between the Museums and Library, titled Impressions in Time: Printing and Prints in Local Heritage, explores various forms of writing and visual communication, from the oldest techniques (merchandise branding, writing on wax tablets, stone inscriptions), to more recent ones, from parchment documents to paper books, and even modern e-books.

The Municipal Museums and Baldini Library hold several artifacts from the local area that help retrace the history of this evolution, highlighting its most significant and distinctive milestones in the context of the region’s historical development.

Depending on the class curriculum, the topics can include:
